Shayla Van Hofwegen

Head of School

Shayla Van Hofwegen has been part of the West Valley Christian School community since 2008, serving in various volunteer and professional roles before becoming the Head of School. Originally from San Diego, California, Shayla earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education from Grand Canyon University. With a deep passion for Christian education and a heart for serving students, families, and staff, Shayla is committed to continuing the mission and vision of WVCS.

Shayla met her husband when they were in 5th grade at a small Christian school in Phoenix. After becoming high school sweethearts, they graduated from Grand Canyon University together and have now been married for 18 years. Together, they have four amazing children, all of whom attend West Valley Christian School. Outside of school, Shayla’s favorite hobby is her animals. She is always trying to convince her family that they need more additions to their family “herd,” including cows, cats, dogs, and ducks. A fun fact about Shayla is that she was nationally ranked in BMX when she was younger!

What Shayla enjoys most about WVCS is the people who make it feel like home. She considers WVCS her home away from home and loves working alongside a community of staff, students, and families who are passionate about Christ-centered education. Guided by the principle, “We go through what we go through… to help others go through what we went through,” Shayla believes God uses every experience to prepare us to encourage and support others. She is passionate about being the hands and feet of Jesus wherever He places us and using our stories to make a lasting impact in the lives of others.

Sheila Eccles

Secondary Principal

Sheila Eccles joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 as the Secondary Principal. Originally from Illinois and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, Sheila earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Arizona State University and her master’s degree in Education from Northern Arizona University, with specializations in Reading, Learning Disabilities, and Administration. With more than 30 years of experience in education, Sheila brings a wealth of knowledge and a heart for serving students and families. Throughout her career, she has served in public education while also participating in local, regional, and international mission trips, experiences that have strengthened her passion for Christ-centered education.

Sheila and her husband, Jeff, have three daughters: Abby (married to Joe, with grandsons JP and Rhett), Emma, and Sydney (married to Josiah, with grandson Zealand). Their family also includes their beloved Great Dane, Duke. Outside of school, Sheila enjoys shopping, reading, listening to Christian and country music, and cheering on her favorite football teams.

What Sheila enjoys most about WVCS is serving alongside fellow believers in a Christ-centered community where students and families are encouraged to grow both academically and spiritually. She is grateful for the opportunity to help students flourish in an environment where a personal relationship with Jesus is at the heart of everything they do. Guided by Joshua 1:9 and Jeremiah 29:11, Sheila is reminded to be strong and courageous, trusting in God’s presence and His plans for each person’s life. She is passionate about encouraging students to walk confidently in their faith while discovering the purpose God has for them.

Travis Thompson

Elementary Principal

Travis Thompson joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as the Elementary Principal. Originally from Texas, Travis brings 14 years of experience in Christian education and has served in a variety of leadership roles, including Bible Teacher, Dean of Students, Athletic Director, and Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Counseling and is ACSI and CAA certified. Travis attends Orbit Church and is passionate about investing in the next generation through Christ-centered education.

Travis and his wife, Courtney, have a four-year-old daughter, Brooklyn. Outside of school, he enjoys working out, traveling, grilling, watching a great movie, and collecting sports cards. A few fun facts about Travis are that he played college basketball, has undergone five major knee surgeries, and can recite every word of *Forrest Gump*!

What Travis enjoys most about WVCS is serving alongside fellow believers who are passionate about Christian education and building meaningful relationships throughout the school community. His favorite part of each day is spending time with students, whom he describes simply as “awesome.” Guided by Romans 8:28, Travis is committed to caring for every student God has entrusted to him and providing them with the best possible educational experience, both academically and spiritually.

Lydia Bowls

Dean of Students and Instructional Coach

Lydia Bowls joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 and currently serves as the Dean of Students and Instructional Coach. Originally from California, Lydia brings 18 years of experience in education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, and an Educational Specialist degree in K–12 Leadership. Inspired by her own high school teachers, Ms. Seo and Ms. Sunada, Lydia developed a passion for education and for making a lasting impact on students.

Lydia and her husband, Paul, have three children; Josiah, Amelia and Alex, as well as two dogs and a bunny. Outside of school, she enjoys drinking iced coffee and crafting. A fun fact about Lydia is that she is fluent in Armenian!

What Lydia enjoys most about WVCS is being part of a Christ-like environment where she can pour into students and their families. She especially values the opportunity to have difficult conversations while extending grace and leading with Christ’s love. Guided by Ephesians 4:32, Lydia strives to serve others with kindness, compassion, and grace while encouraging students to grow both personally and spiritually.

Shannon Palmer

Business Manager

Shannon Palmer joined West Valley Christian School in 2007 as the Business Manager. Originally from Quincy, Illinois, Shannon earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Midwestern State University and brings nearly two decades of experience in her field. Shannon has been married to her husband, Ray Palmer, for 33 years. Together, they have two adult daughters: Allena McNichols (married to Callum) and Katrina Palmer. Outside of school, Shannon enjoys traveling, spending quality time with her family, and relaxing at the beach. One of her favorite memories was traveling throughout Europe with her two daughters. A fun fact about Shannon is that she is a military “brat” and lived in Turkey for two years during middle school.

What Shannon enjoys most about WVCS is the genuine friendships she has developed over the years and the opportunity to work alongside coworkers who love the Lord and share a passion for Christian education. Her favorite part of serving families is being able to personally help parents with questions or concerns and seeing their gratitude when she can make a difference. Ana Contreras

Billing Specialist

Ana Contreras joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Billing Specialist. Originally from East Los Angeles, Ana brings a strong background in finance with years of experience in banking, including roles as a teller, loan specialist, mortgage professional, and underwriter. Her financial expertise and attention to detail have made the Billing Specialist role a natural fit as she serves the WVCS community.

Ana is married to her husband, Frank, and they have three children: Anthony, Liliana, and Victor. Outside of work, Ana enjoys singing, drawing, meeting friends for coffee, and serving others in different areas.

What Ana enjoys most about working at WVCS is being part of a Christian environment where she can openly talk about Jesus and share His hope with others. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve families and be part of a community centered on faith. Guided by Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not depend on your own understanding,” Ana strives to rely on God’s wisdom and serve others with a faithful heart.

Amanda Koch

Admissions Coordinator

Amanda Koch joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Admissions Coordinator. Originally from Enumclaw, Washington, Amanda brings seven years of experience serving as a Kids Pastor and a deep passion for investing in the next generation. Although this is her first year working in education, Amanda has spent years helping children grow in their faith and discover their identity in Christ. She is passionate about being part of a community that cares not only about students’ education but also about their spiritual growth and relationship with Jesus.

Amanda and her husband, Jason, have been together for 20 years and married for 14 years. They are blessed with four children: Kensley, a 7th grader; Kora, a 5th grader; Kasen, a 2nd grader; and Kohen, a Pre-K student, all of whom attend WVCS. Their family also includes their mini Goldendoodle, Molly. Outside of school, Amanda enjoys running, hiking, biking, camping, and any opportunity to spend time outdoors with her family while unplugging and creating memories together. A fun fact about Amanda is that her dream is to live in Hawaii someday.

What Amanda enjoys most about WVCS is the welcoming community and the opportunity to meet new families while sharing what she loves about the school. Her favorite part of serving students is watching them grow in confidence and discover who God created them to be. Guided by Matthew 22:37–39, Amanda is committed to loving God and loving others while helping families find a Christ-centered community where their children can thrive.

Meghety Foudoulian

Marketing & Fundraising Coordinator

Meghety Foudoulian joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Marketing & Fundraising Coordinator. Originally from Lebanon and of Armenian heritage, Meghety brings over 8 years of experience in marketing, along with a background in sales, hospitality, and content creation. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and a Master of Commerce with a specialization in Marketing from Macquarie University in Australia. Throughout her career, Meghety has enjoyed using creativity, strategy, and relationship-building to help organizations share their stories and connect with their communities.

Meghety and her husband, Daniel, have two children, Abigail and Luca. Their family relocated to Arizona from California at the end of 2024. Outside of school, Meghety enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and creating new recipes, vlogging, traveling, and exploring new places. A fun fact about Meghety is that she speaks more than three languages, has lived in three different countries, and has traveled to 13 countries. She has also skydived twice within 24 hours!

Meghety is passionate about using marketing and storytelling to bring awareness to organizations and businesses that have a meaningful purpose. She loves creating, designing, and building relationships with community partners. What she enjoys most about WVCS is being part of a Christ-centered community where Jesus is at the center of everything they do. Guided by the reminder that “Where God guides, He provides” and Jeremiah 29:11, Meghety is excited to serve WVCS families, students, and partners while helping share the mission of the school.

Anna Golike

Front Office Assistant

Anna Elizabeth Golike joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Front Office Administrative Assistant. Originally born in Ohio and raised in Indiana, Anna’s family moved to Washington when she was in high school. Before joining WVCS, Anna spent 12 years working at a small animal hospital as a Veterinary Technician and Lead Receptionist. In 2016, she became a full-time stay-at-home mom, and in 2019, she and her family moved from Washington to Arizona, where she and her husband started their own pool service and repair company and began homeschooling their children.

Anna and her husband have been married for 19 years and have four children, two boys and two girls, ages 9–17. Their family also includes three cats, one dog, and a snake! As a family, they love spending time outdoors, which was one of the reasons they chose to make Arizona their home. Anna especially enjoys playing in the pool with her kids, hiking, visiting parks, and occasionally trying to convince her husband that they need to adopt yet another animal. A fun fact about Anna is that she was a substitute school bus driver when she was 20. She loved the job, although the lack of GPS meant she frequently got lost—and apparently the students were not always motivated to help her get them to school on time!

Anna attends Salt Church and has always had a heart for serving and caring for children. From the time she was a young teenager serving in her church nursery, she felt that God had created her to serve children and show them the love of Christ. She is grateful to be part of the WVCS community, where she has found the staff to be incredibly kind and welcoming and loves working alongside a team of fellow believers. What she enjoys most about WVCS is building relationships with the children and having a daily opportunity to reflect Christ’s love to them.

Glorianna Singleton

Preschool Coordinator and Extended Care Manager

Glorianna Singleton joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 as the Preschool Coordinator and Extended Care Manager. Originally from Pensacola, Florida, Glorianna is currently pursuing her studies in Biblical Studies and brings eight years of experience working with children. She has a passion for helping students learn, grow, and discover their God-given potential.

Glorianna is one of eight siblings. Outside of school, she enjoys playing guitar, sewing, attending Bible studies, and spending time at the lake. A fun fact about Glorianna is that noodles are her favorite food!

What Glorianna enjoys most about WVCS is the meaningful relationships she gets to build with staff, students, and parents. Her favorite part of serving children is seeing their faces light up when they learn something new and experience the joy of discovery. Guided by Proverbs 3:5–6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight,” Glorianna is committed to trusting God’s direction and creating a loving environment where children can grow. Dave Hodges

Athletic Director

Dave Hodges joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Athletic Director, bringing with him 45 years of experience in education and his field. Originally from Denver, Dave earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and History and his Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. With a passion for helping young people and a desire to make a lasting impact, Dave sees his role at WVCS as a calling and is grateful for the opportunity to serve students and families within a Christ-centered environment.

Dave has been married to his wife, Nora, a retired corporate executive, for well over 30 years. Together, they have one adult son who is preparing to begin law school, as well as three dogs who, according to Dave, all think they are human! Outside of school, Dave enjoys working out, traveling to special-interest sites, and participating in various church and civic-related charities. A meaningful part of Dave’s story is that he faced a life-threatening condition as a child, but through the grace of God and the prayers of his family, he went on to become a scholarship athlete.

What Dave enjoys most about serving students is the opportunity to have a generational impact as he helps and watches young people grow mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. He was inspired to pursue his profession because he wanted to help young people in the same way he had been helped throughout his own life. The Lord’s Prayer holds special significance for Dave and serves as a guiding light in the areas of obedience, faith, handling temptation, and practicing grace and forgiveness. He looks forward to partnering with parents and colleagues to enhance the academic, athletic, and spiritual development of WVCS students, with the ultimate goal of helping them develop strong Christian leadership qualities.

Adrianna Gallagher

Second Grade Teacher

Adrianna Gallagher joined West Valley Christian School in 2024 as a 2nd Grade Teacher. A lifelong resident of the Phoenix Valley, Adrianna earned her Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from Glendale Community College, her Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, and holds a Structured English Immersion (SEI) Certification. Entering her fifth year of teaching, all in 2nd grade, Adrianna believes teaching is her calling. Inspired by the teachers who invested in her, she is passionate about creating a classroom where students feel loved, valued, and encouraged to become the best version of themselves.

Adrianna recently married her husband, Andrew, and they are enjoying this exciting new season of life together. Outside of school, they love spending time outdoors, exploring Arizona, cheering on the Arizona Diamondbacks, and making memories with family and friends. Adrianna also enjoys coaching volleyball, playing pickleball, crafting, camping, and visiting Major League Baseball stadiums. A fun fact about her is that she is a devoted Diamondbacks fan and has visited 12 MLB stadiums so far.

What Adrianna enjoys most about WVCS is the incredible sense of community among the staff, students, and families. She is grateful to be part of a school where Christ’s love is reflected through the way people serve and encourage one another. Her favorite part of teaching is watching students grow in confidence, discover their unique gifts, and understand their God-given worth. Inspired by the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38–42, Adrianna is reminded to keep her relationship with Jesus at the center of everything she does. She considers teaching more than a profession—it is a calling—and is thankful for the opportunity to partner with families as students grow academically, spiritually, and personally.

Alexandria Johnson

Second Grade Teacher

Alex Johnson joined West Valley Christian School in 2022 as a 2nd Grade Teacher and is now in her fourth year at WVCS. Having grown up in a military family, Alex had the unique opportunity to live in different places throughout her childhood. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Elementary Leadership. With 11 years of experience in education, Alex was inspired to become a teacher by her own children and is passionate about helping students grow academically and spiritually.

Alex is married and has three daughters: Lyla, a freshman; Bradey, a 3rd grader; and Ari, a Kindergarten student. Their family also includes three dogs and two cats. Outside of school, Alex enjoys spending time with her family, taking walks around the family farm, and playing volleyball together. A fun fact about Alex is that she attended middle school and high school at Aviano Air Base in Italy, just a short train ride from Venice.

What Alex enjoys most about WVCS is the Christ-centered community and the opportunity to pour the love of Christ into students each day. As both a teacher and a parent, she is grateful that her own children are growing in their faith while being discipled in a school that keeps Jesus at the center. Her favorite part of teaching is helping students build that same strong foundation in Christ while growing in confidence and character. Guided by James 1:19, which reminds believers to be "quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry," and by the powerful meaning of Jesus' final words, "Tetelestai" ("It is finished"), Alex strives to lead with grace, humility, and the assurance that Christ has already paid the debt for us all.

PE Teacher

Amy Giebrich joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 and serves as the K–8 Physical Education Teacher and High School Sports Medicine Teacher. Originally from California, Amy brings five years of experience in education and a background in Health Science and Physical Education. She holds an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree in her field and is passionate about helping students understand the importance of caring for the bodies God has given them.

Amy is blessed with a wonderful husband and two children who attend WVCS. Outside of school, she enjoys exercising, spending time outdoors, reading nonfiction, and worshiping. A fun fact about Amy is that she won her school’s 4th grade hula hoop contest!

Amy loves being part of the WVCS community and especially enjoys sharing the love of Jesus, celebrating movement with students, and connecting with families. Her favorite part of serving students is watching their confidence grow as they learn new skills and reach new milestones. Guided by 1 Corinthians 6:19, which reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Amy is grateful for the opportunity to encourage students to care for themselves with joy and gratitude.

Fifth Grade Teacher

Anna Schaus joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as a 5th Grade Teacher. Although she moved around as a child, Anna has called Buckeye, Arizona home since 2007. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Christian Education from Grand Canyon University and is entering her third year of teaching full time. From a young age, Anna dreamed of becoming a teacher, and as she grew older, she felt God’s calling to pursue a career where she could impact students’ lives through education and faith.

Anna is very close with her immediate family, including her parents, brother, sister, and her dog, Abby. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys traveling, reading, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family. A fun fact about Anna is that she recently developed a Diet Coke obsession!

What Anna enjoys most about WVCS is being part of such a positive and welcoming community. Babylyn Cristobal

Babylyn Cristobal joined West Valley Christian School in 2021 as a Kindergarten Teacher. Originally from the Philippines, Babylyn brings 17 years of experience in education and holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, California Clear Credentials, an Arizona Teaching Certificate, and an ACSI Certificate. Teaching has been a lifelong dream for Babylyn since she was five years old, and she is passionate about creating a classroom where students feel loved, supported, and encouraged to grow.

Babylyn and her husband have been married for 25 years. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys cooking and baking. A fun fact about Babylyn is that she is already a grandma!

What Babylyn enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to freely share Jesus with students each day and be part of a community centered on faith. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing the students’ teachable hearts and watching them discover new things as they learn and grow. Brittany Deleon

Brittany DeLeon joined West Valley Christian School in 2020 as the School Nurse. Originally from Ohio, Brittany is a Certified Pediatric Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also holds certifications to instruct CPR/AED, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed. With over 17 years of nursing experience and four years serving students and families through school nursing, Brittany is passionate about caring for children and creating a safe, supportive environment where students can thrive.

Brittany is newly married to her husband, Kaulanahokuokalani, and together they have a beautifully blended family with eight children and one granddaughter. They enjoy serving the Lord together through their ministry, Walk by Faith Ministries, and sharing Hawaiian food and hospitality through their food truck, Faith’s Hawaiian Kitchen. Outside of school, Brittany enjoys serving in ministry, organizing community outreach events, cooking Hawaiian dishes with her husband, and spending quality time with family and friends. A fun fact about Brittany is that through their Hawaiian food ministry, every meal purchased helps provide meals and hope to people experiencing homelessness.

What Brittany enjoys most about WVCS is that Christ is at the center of everything they do. She is grateful for the opportunity to pray with students, encourage families, partner with staff, and serve in a community where faith and education go hand in hand. Her favorite part of serving students is building meaningful relationships and reminding each child that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved by God. Caitlin McDermitt

Caitlin McDermitt joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 as a 4th Grade Teacher. A lifelong Phoenix resident, Caitlin attends Jesus First! Church in downtown Phoenix. She earned her degree in Elementary Education from Arizona Christian University in 2024 and is passionate about creating engaging learning experiences for her students. Her love for teaching began while volunteering with her high school archery team, where she discovered the joy of helping and encouraging others to learn and grow.

Outside of the classroom, Caitlin enjoys gardening, baking, playing Animal Crossing, and all kinds of crafts. She is also a competitive person who loves archery and is the proud owner of two mini Goldendoodles.

What Caitlin enjoys most about WVCS is the strong sense of community and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with her students each year. Her favorite part of teaching is getting to know each student and creating fun, interactive activities that make learning exciting. Guided by Philippians 4:6, which reminds us not to worry about anything but to pray about everything, Caitlin is committed to fostering a classroom where students feel encouraged, supported, and excited to learn. Cindy Gilbert joined West Valley Christian School in the 2023–2024 school year as a 4th Grade Teacher. Originally from Casa Grande, Arizona, Cindy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English and a Master’s Degree in Biblical Counseling. With four years of experience in education, Cindy is passionate about encouraging students academically while helping them understand their identity and purpose through God’s truth.

Cindy is married to her high school sweetheart, and together they have four grown children, four wonderful grandchildren, and one dog who misses them very much when they are away. Outside of the classroom, Cindy enjoys working on projects around her home and yard, walking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. A fun fact about Cindy is that she had the opportunity to cheer at the Rose Bowl and the Holiday Bowl for ASU.

What Cindy enjoys most about WVCS is the positive, encouraging, and supportive culture among the staff and administration. Her favorite part of teaching is sharing God’s promises with her students and encouraging them to believe the truth of who God says they are. Connie Alvarez joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as the Spanish Teacher. Originally from Los Angeles, California, Connie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with an ELL endorsement and a Master of Education in School Counseling K–12. With 11 years of experience in education, Connie has a passion for investing in students and helping them discover their God-given purpose. She truly enjoys working with students and families and is dedicated to creating an environment where students feel supported academically, personally, and spiritually.

Connie has been married for 12 years and is blessed with two children—a daughter who is a 4th grader and a son who is starting 1st grade. Outside of school, Connie enjoys serving on her church’s praise and worship team, traveling and vacationing with her family, taking walks, and staying active.

What Connie enjoys most about WVCS is the Christ-centered community and the opportunity to integrate her faith into serving students and families each day. Her favorite part of teaching is building genuine relationships with students and encouraging them in their academic growth, personal development, and spiritual journey. Dave Hodges joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Athletic Director, bringing with him 45 years of experience in education and his field. Originally from Denver, Dave earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and History and his Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. With a passion for helping young people and a desire to make a lasting impact, Dave sees his role at WVCS as a calling and is grateful for the opportunity to serve students and families within a Christ-centered environment.

Dave has been married to his wife, Nora, a retired corporate executive, for well over 30 years. Together, they have one adult son who is preparing to begin law school, as well as three dogs who, according to Dave, all think they are human! Outside of school, Dave enjoys working out, traveling to special-interest sites, and participating in various church and civic-related charities. A meaningful part of Dave’s story is that he faced a life-threatening condition as a child, but through the grace of God and the prayers of his family, he went on to become a scholarship athlete.

What Dave enjoys most about serving students is the opportunity to have a generational impact as he helps and watches young people grow mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. He was inspired to pursue his profession because he wanted to help young people in the same way he had been helped throughout his own life. The Lord’s Prayer holds special significance for Dave and serves as a guiding light in the areas of obedience, faith, handling temptation, and practicing grace and forgiveness. He looks forward to partnering with parents and colleagues to enhance the academic, athletic, and spiritual development of WVCS students, with the ultimate goal of helping them develop strong Christian leadership qualities.

Deena Ellson

Deena Ellson joined West Valley Christian School in 2022 as an aide. Originally from Huntington Beach, California, Deena has seven years of experience working in education. While she does not have a formal degree or certification to include, she brings a heart for serving students and a passion for sharing the love of Jesus through her work at WVCS.

Deena has been married for 35 years and has two grown children and a wonderful daughter-in-law. She is also a proud grandmother to one grandchild, with another on the way! Her family includes their dog, Roxy. Outside of school, Deena enjoys studying the Bible with friends and baking.

Deena was inspired to serve at WVCS because of her desire to share the love of Jesus with students. Her favorite part of working with students is sharing the Gospel and helping them understand what it means to be brothers and sisters in Christ. She is grateful to serve in a Christ-centered community alongside others who share her faith. Guided by Isaiah 43:1, Deena strives to remind students that they are known, loved, and belong to God.

Diana Russ

Diana Russ joined West Valley Christian School in 2020 as a Teacher Assistant in Mrs. Cristobal’s classroom. Born in Chicago and proudly Romanian, Diana brings 19 years of experience working with children and a genuine passion for helping students learn and grow. Her love for kids and the joy they bring to her life inspired her to pursue a career serving children and supporting their development.

Diana has been married for 12 years and has a daughter who attends West Valley Christian School. Their family also includes two dogs. Outside of school, Diana enjoys spending time with her family, completing puzzles, and riding bikes. A fun fact about Diana is that she used to show board when she was younger.

What Diana enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to work alongside her wonderful coworkers and be part of a supportive community. Eileen Orona

Eileen Orona joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 as the K-12 Music Teacher. Originally from New York and raised in Arizona, Eileen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona Christian University. With decades of experience in education, Eileen brings a passion for music, worship, and helping students use their gifts to glorify God.

Eileen and her husband met while participating in a vocal ensemble in college and have shared a love for music and ministry throughout their marriage. Her husband has served as a pastor at Palm Valley Church for the past decade, where they have been attending and leading worship for 25 years. They have three children, with two attending Grand Canyon University and their youngest currently attending Estrella Foothills High School. Outside of school, Eileen enjoys traveling, leading worship, thrifting with her daughter, reading, and watching British period dramas. A fun fact about Eileen is that she has watched every episode of FRIENDS countless times and often finds herself quoting the show in everyday conversations!

What Eileen enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with colleagues who encourage, support, and pray alongside one another. Her favorite part of serving students is watching them worship and seeing their joy as they use their musical gifts. Guided by Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need,” Eileen is grateful for the opportunity to help students grow in their love for music and their relationship with Christ.

Elisha Perry

Elisha Perry joined West Valley Christian School in October 2019 as an Aide. An Arizona native, Elisha holds an Associate in Science degree and has been serving students at WVCS since joining the school. With a deep curiosity about God's creation and a love of learning, Elisha is passionate about helping students discover new things and experience the joy that comes with learning. Serving at WVCS provides the opportunity to glorify God by serving students, families, and fellow staff members each day.

Outside of school, Elisha enjoys reading fiction and exploring the incredible detail and design found in God's creation. A fun fact is that Elisha loves collecting cicada shells whenever they are found. Although not married and without children or pets, Elisha treasures the relationships built within the WVCS community and considers it a blessing to serve alongside fellow believers.

What Elisha enjoys most about WVCS is seeing the excitement students have when they eagerly share the things that bring them joy, as well as serving alongside a staff that genuinely cares for others. The most rewarding part of serving students is watching God work in their hearts as they grow in knowledge, character, and love for others. Guided by the truth of Revelation 4:11, Philippians 1:6, and Ephesians 2:10, Elisha believes every person is created for God's purpose and that He faithfully completes the work He begins. Whether encouraging fellow believers or praying for those who have not yet come to know Christ, Elisha's desire is for every person to experience the hope, peace, and joy found in Jesus.

Elizabeth Baker

Elizabeth Baker joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 and serves as an Elementary Aide and Middle School Hospitality Teacher. Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Elizabeth brings three and a half years of experience in education and a genuine love for working with children. She attends Fixate Phoenix and was drawn to education because she loves kids, enjoys solving problems, and finds joy in being helpful. What she enjoys most about WVCS is being around the students and watching them accomplish things, especially when she gets to see their smiles.

Elizabeth is married and is a mom to four children. Her family also includes a dog and a snake! Outside of school, she enjoys being a dance, football, and soccer mom, traveling, and serving at her church through leading worship and writing songs. A fun fact about Elizabeth is that she used to perform locally in California as a singer. And if you know Elizabeth, you’ll quickly learn that she loves her coffee! ☕💕

Elizabeth is guided by the reminder that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that He continues to heal and save. One of the verses that holds special meaning for her is Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Elizabeth loves serving students and believes some of the most rewarding moments come from simply being present, helpful, and encouraging as they grow and accomplish new things.

Emily Smith

Emily Smith joined West Valley Christian School in 2024 as a Kindergarten Teacher. A native of Arizona, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Teacher Education from Point Loma Nazarene University and holds a California Teaching Credential. Now in her third year of teaching Kindergarten, Emily has known since she was young that she wanted to become a teacher. She has always loved working with children and believes teaching is one of the gifts God has given her.

Emily was born and raised in Arizona and has two sisters. Outside of the classroom, she coaches the WVCS volleyball team and enjoys thrifting, baking, reading, playing pickleball, and crafting. A fun fact about Emily is that she loves trying new hobbies and is always finding creative ways to spend her free time.

What Emily enjoys most about WVCS is the strong sense of community and the wonderful students she gets to teach each day. Her favorite part of being a Kindergarten teacher is watching her students grow in confidence and seeing just how much they learn and develop throughout the school year. Erin Dorine Chavez joined West Valley Christian School in 2024 as an Aide and Hospitality Teacher. Originally from Delaware, Erin has also lived in California and Arizona. She brings experience in education through four years as a substitute teacher and one year as a Specials Teacher. After spending 14 years as a stay-at-home mother, Erin felt called to become more involved in education and create a positive influence in the lives of students.

Erin has been married for 15 years and has three children. Her family enjoys traveling, exploring, and going on adventures together. They live on a large property in Tonopah with their four big dogs. Outside of school, Erin enjoys horseback riding, rock climbing, repelling, skiing, camping, and cooking. A fun fact about Erin is that she served as a mechanic in the Air Force before becoming a mother in 2012.

What Erin enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to openly and freely share about Christ. She loves building relationships with students, getting to know them better, and celebrating those special “aha” moments when learning clicks. Glorianna Singleton

Glorianna Singleton joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 as the Preschool Coordinator and Extended Care Manager. Originally from Pensacola, Florida, Glorianna is currently pursuing her studies in Biblical Studies and brings eight years of experience working with children. She has a passion for helping students learn, grow, and discover their God-given potential.

Glorianna is one of eight siblings. Outside of school, she enjoys playing guitar, sewing, attending Bible studies, and spending time at the lake. A fun fact about Glorianna is that noodles are her favorite food!

What Glorianna enjoys most about WVCS is the meaningful relationships she gets to build with staff, students, and parents. Her favorite part of serving children is seeing their faces light up when they learn something new and experience the joy of discovery. Second Grade Teacher

Hailee Elders joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as a 2nd Grade Teacher. Originally from San Diego, California, Hailee earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and is entering her third year in education. She has always loved working with children and knew from a young age that teaching was her calling. Watching her students learn, grow, and gain confidence brings her great joy, and she is passionate about encouraging and supporting them each day as they discover the gifts God has given them.

Hailee comes from a close-knit family and is one of four siblings. Last year, she and her sister moved to Phoenix together, while her two younger brothers continue their education—one at Grand Canyon University and the other in elementary school. She is especially grateful for her wonderful mom and the support of her family. Outside of the classroom, Hailee enjoys taking spin and Pilates classes, trying new coffee shops, exploring Arizona, spending time at the lake, and making memories with friends and family. A fun fact about Hailee is that she loves country concerts and traveling.

What Hailee enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to openly share God's truth every day and integrate faith into every part of learning. She also values the supportive partnership of families and staff and is thankful to serve alongside an incredible second-grade team. Her favorite part of teaching is building lasting relationships with her students, watching them grow throughout the year, and creating meaningful memories through learning, laughter, and fun. Haley Garland

Haley Garland joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as a 3rd Grade Teacher. Originally from Washington State, Haley earned her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and brings three years of experience in education. Inspired by the teachers who made a lasting impact on her own life, Haley is passionate about creating a classroom where students feel valued, encouraged, and excited to learn.

Haley recently married her husband, Christian, in April 2025. Together, they have two dogs, Ollie, a cattle dog, and Zoe, a border collie. Outside of the classroom, Haley enjoys scrapbooking, calligraphy, painting banners, and watching movies from the 1950s through the early 2000s. A fun fact about Haley is that she loves classic films and enjoys revisiting favorites from different eras.

What Haley enjoys most about WVCS is the welcoming community and support from those around her. Her favorite part of teaching is watching students grow throughout the year and being a trusted source of encouragement, joy, and guidance in their lives. Christopher Harley joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 as part of the Security team. Originally from California, Christopher brings seven years of experience in law enforcement and is passionate about helping protect and serve others. His commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment makes him an important part of the WVCS community.

Christopher is a father of three, with two daughters and one son. Outside of school, he enjoys playing video games and spending time outdoors. A fun fact about Christopher is that he loves sloths!

Christopher was drawn to a career in law enforcement because of his desire to help protect people. At WVCS, he enjoys working alongside his coworkers and, most importantly, helping keep students safe. One of his favorite parts of serving at school is hearing the younger students excitedly call out, “Hi, Mr. Harley!” Christopher strives to live by the simple principle of being kind to others and is grateful for the opportunity to serve the WVCS community each day.

Jamie Molkentin

Jamie Molkentin joined West Valley Christian School in 2012 as a Secondary Science and Bible Teacher. Originally from Huntington Beach, California, Jamie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Teaching with an emphasis in Child and Human Development. She is certified in both California and Arizona and holds an ACSI Teaching Credential. With 24 years of experience in education, Jamie has a passion for helping students grow academically, spiritually, and personally while pointing them toward Christ in all areas of learning.

Jamie is married to her husband, Levi, who serves as a chaplain, author, photographer, and Costco employee. Levi also enjoys sharing his faith through WVCS chapels and camps. Together, they have two children who attend WVCS: Terry, a 10th grader who loves baseball, and Lillya, a 7th grader who enjoys basketball. Their family also includes their Aussie-doodle, Max, who is happily obsessed with Jamie. Outside of school, Jamie enjoys spending time at the beach, visiting Kauai, and baking sourdough bread and cookies on the weekends. A few fun facts about Jamie are that she has ridden her bike down a volcano, backpacked through Europe, and taught in Africa.

Jamie has always felt called to teach. Although she originally imagined herself teaching kindergarten, she discovered a love for secondary students and the unique opportunities to invest in their lives. What Jamie enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to teach about God and His Word through science and everyday interactions with students. She is grateful to be part of a community where she can be near her own children while watching students grow in their faith and character.

Jamie’s favorite part of serving students is helping them feel loved, safe, and encouraged while discipling them along their journey. Guided by Psalm 19:14, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, LORD, my rock and my redeemer,” Jamie strives to honor God through her teaching and relationships. She wants families to know that she will love their children, care for them as her own, and consider it a privilege to serve through the ministry of Christian education.

Joel Mucklow joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the 7th and 8th Grade History and Bible Teacher. A Peoria, Arizona native, Joel earned his Bachelor’s Degree with honors from Grand Canyon University and completed his Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Although this is his first year teaching, Joel has a deep passion for studying and teaching God’s Word, history, and a biblical worldview. From a young age, he felt called to share the Gospel and help others grow into mature followers of Christ.

Joel is very close with his family, including his parents, Mark and Tricia Mucklow, and his sister, Elizabeth. They all serve together at First Southern Baptist Church of Glendale and enjoy traveling and playing board games as a family. Outside of school, Joel enjoys weightlifting, hiking in the mountains, reading theology, history, and philosophy books, and traveling internationally. He has visited 13 countries, including Indonesia, where he lived for four months sharing the Gospel with Muslim college students. A fun fact about Joel is that his one-rep max on bench press is 315 pounds, and he has overcome significant health challenges, including lung surgery as an infant and brain surgery in fourth grade, by God’s grace.

What Joel enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to teach students the Bible and a biblical perspective of history in a Christ-centered environment. He is grateful to be part of a faculty and staff who are passionate about serving students and pointing them toward truth. His favorite part of teaching will be walking alongside students in their spiritual journeys and helping them grow in wisdom, truth, and love. Guided by Philippians 1:21, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain,” Joel believes his life is a living sacrifice to God and is committed to helping students understand the hope and purpose found in a relationship with Jesus. He wants families to know that their students are loved and prayed over daily and is excited for the year ahead at WVCS.

Kenneth “KC” Ellson joined West Valley Christian School in 2019 as the High School Bible Teacher. Originally from Huntington Beach, California, KC earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University and his Master of Divinity from Phoenix Seminary. With seven years of experience in his field, KC has a passion for helping others know and love Christ more through the teaching of God’s Word and meaningful discipleship.

KC and his wife, Danielle, have a son, Atticus, and are excited to welcome their daughter, Eliza, in November. Danielle previously served as a 4th Grade Teacher at WVCS. Outside of school, KC enjoys reading, playing video games, board games, and escape rooms. A fun fact about KC is that he owns over 1,300 books!

What KC enjoys most about WVCS is the strong sense of community and the opportunity to teach the Bible every day. His favorite part of serving students is engaging in spiritual conversations and creating opportunities for discipleship as students grow in their faith. Kendra Arrieta joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Secondary Yearbook Teacher. Originally from Riverside, California, Kendra earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and brings 20 years of experience in healthcare marketing. With a lifelong love of writing and storytelling, Kendra is excited to combine her experience in content and design with her passion for helping students develop practical skills while sharing the love of Jesus.

Kendra has been married to her husband, Brandon, for 17 years, and they have three children who all attend West Valley Christian School: Krista, a 9th grader, Hannah, a 6th grader, and Jacob, a 3rd grader. Their family also includes Eevee, their one-year-old toy poodle. Outside of school, Kendra enjoys watching baseball (go Dodgers!), cooking and baking, and spending time with her family. A fun fact about Kendra is that she worked at Disneyland Resort while she was in college!

What Kendra enjoys most about working at WVCS is seeing students get excited about new things and teaching them skills they can carry with them for years to come. She loves that content and design are practical skills students can use long after graduation, while also learning the importance of organization, meeting deadlines, and taking responsibility. Kenshalene Minnot

Kenshalene Minott joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as a 4th Grade Teacher. Originally from Michigan, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree and is a Registered Behavioral Technician. With over five years of experience in education, Kenshalene is passionate about helping students grow academically, personally, and spiritually. She pursued education as a way to better understand herself and believes that the healed and restored version of herself can be used by God to minister, mentor, and guide others toward living victoriously.

Kenshalene and her husband will celebrate 16 years of marriage in November 2026. Together, they are proud parents of three sons. Her oldest enjoys acting, while her two younger sons are talented basketball athletes. Outside of school, Kenshalene enjoys reading God’s Word, traveling to basketball tournaments, spending time at the beach, playing Monopoly, and watching Tiny Homes. Her family loves Jesus and values making memories together.

What Kenshalene enjoys most about WVCS is knowing she has the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others while letting her light shine for Christ. Her favorite part of teaching is integrating Christ into the curriculum and helping students see God’s presence in all areas of learning. Lori Mayne joined West Valley Christian School in 2021 as an ELP Paraeducator. Mostly raised in Phoenix after moving from Texas as a young child, Lori holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and brings 22 years of experience in education. She felt God’s calling to teach children and has a passion for supporting students as they learn, grow, and discover their God-given abilities.

Lori and her husband, Kevin, have been married for 24 years and are blessed with four children—two daughters and two sons. Outside of school, Lori enjoys sewing and quilting. A fun fact about Lori is that she has traveled to five different countries.

What Lori enjoys most about WVCS is the strong sense of camaraderie among the staff and the feeling of being part of a family. Her favorite part of serving students is the opportunity to share God’s love with each student she works with. Dean of Students and Instructional Coach

Lydia Bowls joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 and currently serves as the Dean of Students and Instructional Coach. Originally from California, Lydia brings 18 years of experience in education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, and an Educational Specialist degree in K–12 Leadership. Inspired by her own high school teachers, Ms. Seo and Ms. Sunada, Lydia developed a passion for education and for making a lasting impact on students.

Lydia and her husband, Paul, have three children; Josiah, Amelia and Alex, as well as two dogs and a bunny. Outside of school, she enjoys drinking iced coffee and crafting. A fun fact about Lydia is that she is fluent in Armenian!

What Lydia enjoys most about WVCS is being part of a Christ-like environment where she can pour into students and their families. She especially values the opportunity to have difficult conversations while extending grace and leading with Christ’s love. Madison Harris

First Grade Teacher

Madison Harris joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as a 1st Grade Teacher. Originally from Redlands, California, Madison holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from California Baptist University and is entering her fifth year in education. Coming from a long line of educators, including her mother, Madison has always had a passion for children and building meaningful relationships with them. She believes God has gifted her with the ability to connect with students and is grateful for the opportunity to use that gift to help further His kingdom.

Madison is a proud mom of three children, two of whom attend West Valley Christian School, and her family also includes their cat, Beau. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching movies, reading, and gathering with friends. She loves any opportunity to celebrate and make memories with the people she loves. A fun fact about Madison is that she spent three months living in London while in college.

Marina Campian joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Preschool 4’s Teacher in the Koala Class. Originally from Southern California, Marina holds a Certificate in Early Childhood Literacy and brings over 10 years of experience in early childhood education. She previously taught preschool in California and served at the Buckeye Public Library, where she led storytimes and created programs that encouraged a love of books and learning for children from birth through age five. Marina believes the early years are a special opportunity to plant seeds of faith, kindness, and a lifelong love of learning.

Marina lives in Goodyear with her husband, Danny, and their five-year-old daughter, Alicen, who will be joining the WVCS community as a Kindergarten student this year. Outside of school, Marina enjoys making memories with her family through trips to Disneyland and Disney World, thrift and antique shopping, and attending musicals and concerts.

What Marina enjoys most about WVCS is being part of a community that nurtures children academically, socially, and spiritually. Her favorite part of serving students is helping them feel loved, valued, and excited to learn each day. Marissa Boyer joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as a PreK 4s Teacher. Originally from Millersburg, Pennsylvania, Marissa is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Grand Canyon University. After beginning her education journey as an Instructional Aide in a Developmental Preschool program, Marissa discovered her passion for helping young children learn, grow, and build a strong foundation of faith.

Marissa is married to her husband, Bennett, and together they have three children: Audrena, Brayden, and Cortlyn. Their family also includes their dog, Charlie. Outside of the classroom, Marissa enjoys all things Disney and Gilmore Girls, running, exercising, reading, and studying the Bible. A fun fact about Marissa is that she can quote many books and movies from memory!

Meghety Foudoulian joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Marketing & Fundraising Coordinator. Originally from Lebanon and of Armenian heritage, Meghety brings over 8 years of experience in marketing, along with a background in sales, hospitality, and content creation. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and a Master of Commerce with a specialization in Marketing from Macquarie University in Australia. Throughout her career, Meghety has enjoyed using creativity, strategy, and relationship-building to help organizations share their stories and connect with their communities.

Meghety and her husband, Daniel, have two children, Abigail and Luca. Their family relocated to Arizona from California at the end of 2024. Outside of school, Meghety enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and creating new recipes, vlogging, traveling, and exploring new places. A fun fact about Meghety is that she speaks more than three languages, has lived in three different countries, and has traveled to 13 countries. She has also skydived twice within 24 hours!

Meghety is passionate about using marketing and storytelling to bring awareness to organizations and businesses that have a meaningful purpose. She loves creating, designing, and building relationships with community partners. Mellody Kunch joined West Valley Christian School in 2021 as the Reading Interventionist. Originally from Indiana, Mellody holds a Master’s Degree in Education along with endorsements in Reading, Early Childhood Education, and S.E.I. (Sheltered English Instruction). With 25 years of experience in Arizona education, Mellody has a deep passion for helping students grow and succeed. Inspired by her school librarian and kindergarten teacher, she discovered a love for education early on and has dedicated her career to serving students and helping them reach their potential.

Mellody has been married for 46 years and is blessed with a wonderful family, including children and grandchildren. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, shopping, helping wherever she is needed, and quilting. She is currently working on her fifth quilt, creating one special quilt for each of her grandchildren. A fun fact about Mellody is that she lived on an island for three years in the 1980s.

Michele Francken joined West Valley Christian School in 2014 as the Librarian. A lifelong Arizona resident, Michele earned her Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from the University of Arizona and is ACSI certified as a specials teacher. With 13 years of experience as a librarian, Michele brings a passion for books, learning, and helping students discover the joy of reading.

Michele and her husband have been married since 1997 and have one son, Jonathan, who is a proud West Valley Christian alumnus and currently attends Grand Canyon University. Outside of school, Michele enjoys following all sports, especially cheering on the Arizona Diamondbacks, baking, and collecting books. A fun fact about Michele is that despite her love for books and baking, she is not a fan of chocolate!

What Michele enjoys most about WVCS is the sense of community and the opportunity to continue pouring into students, just as teachers and staff once poured into her own son. Her favorite part of serving students is helping them find books that spark excitement and being part of their educational journey from kindergarten through high school. Monica Youngker joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the High School ELA, Biology, and Agriculture Science Teacher. A native of Arizona with four generations of family roots in the state, Monica earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Arizona. With 10 years of experience in education, Monica has a passion for learning and loves sharing that passion with her students. Growing up involved in 4-H and FFA, she knew from high school that she wanted to become a teacher and inspire students to explore, learn, and discover the world around them.

Natalie Ellson joined West Valley Christian School in 2022 as an Elementary Aide. Born in Nevada and having lived in Arizona for the past 19 years, Natalie brings six years of experience working in education. She began her journey in education as a one-on-one aide supporting students with disabilities and felt the Lord leading her toward working with children.

Natalie comes from a close and loving family and enjoys spending time with her parents, brother, sister-in-law, nephew, and soon-to-arrive niece. She also has a funny dog named Roxy. Outside of school, Natalie enjoys writing and is beginning to discover a love for reading. A fun fact about Natalie is that she is currently attending school to become an ultrasound technician.

Patricia Campos joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as an After Care Program Teacher. Originally from San Salvador, El Salvador, Patricia brings 17 years of experience working with children and a passion for creating a positive and engaging learning environment. She holds a high school diploma and has completed college coursework. Patricia is inspired by the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students and positively contribute to their growth and development.

Patricia is blessed with four children and eight grandchildren. Outside of school, she enjoys bowling and spending time with her family. A fun fact about Patricia is that she is loves bringing joy and energy into the lives of those around her.

What Patricia enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to share the Word of God and be part of a Christ-centered community. Her favorite part of serving students is teaching and interacting with them through singing, dancing, and engaging activities that make learning fun. Pattie Racine joined West Valley Christian School in 2024, first serving as a Preschool substitute before accepting the Front Office position in June 2024. She now serves as the Secondary Math Teacher and Homeroom Bible Teacher. A native of Arizona, Pattie holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Christian emphasis and is entering her third year at WVCS. Although she originally planned to teach younger students, her passion for math grew through classroom experiences and observing the unique ways students think and solve problems. She loves helping students discover that math is not something to fear, but something they can understand and enjoy.

Pattie and her husband recently celebrated 20 years of marriage, and they are proud parents of three children who are all WVCS Warriors. Outside of school, she enjoys camping, reading, playing board games, shopping, and traveling. A fun fact about Pattie is that her whole family calls her “Hanush” (Hon-noosh), which means “Ann” in Polish, her middle name.

What Pattie enjoys most about WVCS is being part of a Christ-centered community where she can see students grow, laugh, learn, and openly talk about Jesus each day. Rebecca Grace Mayne joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Middle School English Language Arts Teacher for 7th and 8th grade. Originally from Arizona, Rebecca graduated with honors from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, an emphasis in English, and a minor in Musical Theatre. Although this is her first year teaching, Rebecca brings a passion for reading, writing, and helping students discover the creativity and joy found through language and storytelling. She also had the opportunity to spend nearly a month in Mongolia teaching English Language Arts alongside a team.

Outside of the classroom, Rebecca enjoys reading, writing, embroidery, acting, watching movies, and spending time with friends. She comes from a close and supportive family, including her twin sister and two younger brothers. A fun fact about Rebecca is that she is double jointed in her left hand! Rebecca was inspired to pursue education because of her desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students and create a classroom where they feel encouraged, valued, and confident as they grow.

Rosalynne Sommers joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the Art Teacher. Originally from Delaware, Rosalynne recently moved to Arizona and brings 10 years of experience in her field. She holds two bachelor’s degrees—one in Art Management and one in Studio Art—and has a passion for helping students explore creativity while recognizing the beauty of God’s creation. Having grown up attending a private Christian school herself, Rosalynne is excited to provide the same Christ-centered experience and encouragement to the next generation.

Outside of the classroom, Rosalynne enjoys paddle boarding, bike riding, hiking, and spending time outdoors.

Shannon Palmer joined West Valley Christian School in 2007 as the Business Manager. Originally from Quincy, Illinois, Shannon earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Midwestern State University and brings nearly two decades of experience in her field. With a strong background in business and a heart for service, Shannon uses her expertise to support the WVCS community and help families navigate the many aspects of school operations.

Shannon has been married to her husband, Ray Palmer, for 33 years. Together, they have two adult daughters: Allena McNichols (married to Callum) and Katrina Palmer. Outside of school, Shannon enjoys traveling, spending quality time with her family, and relaxing at the beach. One of her favorite memories was traveling throughout Europe with her two daughters. A fun fact about Shannon is that she is a military “brat” and lived in Turkey for two years during middle school.

What Shannon enjoys most about WVCS is the genuine friendships she has developed over the years and the opportunity to work alongside coworkers who love the Lord and share a passion for Christian education. Her favorite part of serving families is being able to personally help parents with questions or concerns and seeing their gratitude when she can make a difference. Guided by Romans 8:28, Shannon strives to remain in God’s will and serve others in whatever capacity God uses her to fulfill His purpose.

Shayla Van Hofwegen

Shayla Van Hofwegen has been part of the West Valley Christian School community since 2008, serving in various volunteer and professional roles before becoming the Head of School. Originally from San Diego, California, Shayla earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education from Grand Canyon University. With a deep passion for Christian education and a heart for serving students, families, and staff, Shayla is committed to continuing the mission and vision of WVCS.

Shayla met her husband when they were in 5th grade at a small Christian school in Phoenix. After becoming high school sweethearts, they graduated from Grand Canyon University together and have now been married for 18 years. Together, they have four amazing children, all of whom attend West Valley Christian School. Outside of school, Shayla’s favorite hobby is her animals. She is always trying to convince her family that they need more additions to their family “herd,” including cows, cats, dogs, and ducks. A fun fact about Shayla is that she was nationally ranked in BMX when she was younger!

What Shayla enjoys most about WVCS is the people who make it feel like home. She considers WVCS her home away from home and loves working alongside a community of staff, students, and families who are passionate about Christ-centered education. Guided by the principle, “We go through what we go through… to help others go through what we went through,” Shayla believes God uses every experience to prepare us to encourage and support others. She is passionate about being the hands and feet of Jesus wherever He places us and using our stories to make a lasting impact in the lives of others.

Sheila Eccles

Sheila Eccles joined West Valley Christian School in 2023 as the Secondary Principal. Originally from Illinois and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, Sheila earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Arizona State University and her master’s degree in Education from Northern Arizona University, with specializations in Reading, Learning Disabilities, and Administration. With more than 30 years of experience in education, Sheila brings a wealth of knowledge and a heart for serving students and families. Throughout her career, she has served in public education while also participating in local, regional, and international mission trips, experiences that have strengthened her passion for Christ-centered education.

Sheila and her husband, Jeff, have three daughters: Abby (married to Joe, with grandsons JP and Rhett), Emma, and Sydney (married to Josiah, with grandson Zealand). Their family also includes their beloved Great Dane, Duke. Outside of school, Sheila enjoys shopping, reading, listening to Christian and country music, and cheering on her favorite football teams.

What Sheila enjoys most about WVCS is serving alongside fellow believers in a Christ-centered community where students and families are encouraged to grow both academically and spiritually. She is grateful for the opportunity to help students flourish in an environment where a personal relationship with Jesus is at the heart of everything they do. Guided by Joshua 1:9 and Jeremiah 29:11, Sheila is reminded to be strong and courageous, trusting in God’s presence and His plans for each person’s life. She is passionate about encouraging students to walk confidently in their faith while discovering the purpose God has for them.

Stacy Heiskell

Stacy Ann Heiskell joined West Valley Christian School during the 2025–2026 school year as a Kindergarten Aide. Originally from the southwest corner of Missouri, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English with an emphasis in Professional and Technical Writing. Stacy has one year of experience as a Kindergarten Aide and has also spent two years serving in children’s ministry at Lifepoint Phoenix. After more than a decade as a legal assistant, God led her to pursue a career working with children—a calling that has brought her great joy, peace, and purpose.

Stacy is single and lives with her sister, brother-in-law, and two young nephews. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, hiking when the Arizona weather allows, and spending time with friends and family. A fun fact about Stacy is that she once rode an elephant many years ago.

What Stacy enjoys most about WVCS is the opportunity to openly share her faith with students each day. Her favorite part of working with Kindergarteners is their unfiltered honesty and the joy they bring through their genuine thoughts and emotions. She has a deep love for children and considers it an honor to help them learn and grow while partnering with their families throughout the school year. Guided by Romans 8:38–39, Stacy is committed to creating a safe, fun, and Christ-centered environment where every child feels loved and supported.

Stephanie Dominguez

Stephanie Dominguez joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as the 5th Grade Math and Science Teacher. Originally from Southern California, Stephanie moved to Arizona in 2006. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University and her Master’s Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. Beginning her teaching career in 2014, Stephanie has a passion for building relationships with students and creating a classroom environment where they feel supported, encouraged, and excited to learn.

Stephanie is married to her high school sweetheart, and together they have three wonderful children—two daughters and one son. Their family also includes their sweet German Shepherd, Daisy, who keeps them entertained. Outside of the classroom, Stephanie enjoys reading, digital photography, and crafting with her daughters. A fun fact about Stephanie is that she loves all things autumn!

Stephanie’s passion for teaching began when she was young. After spending time in her aunt’s classroom one summer, she was inspired by the meaningful relationships her aunt built with students and the joy she found in teaching. What Stephanie enjoys most about WVCS is the welcoming, positive community and the opportunity to openly share her faith while teaching in a Christ-centered environment.

Her favorite part of teaching is watching students grow in confidence throughout the year and seeing their curiosity, kindness, and joy shine in the classroom. Steven “Steve” DeVore joined West Valley Christian School in 2022 as a High School Social Studies Teacher. Originally from Southern California, Steve earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Before entering education, Steve spent 40 years as an accountant and is now entering his fifth year of teaching. Throughout his life, he has been encouraged and mentored by many educators, inspiring him to share his knowledge, experiences, and wisdom with the next generation.

Steve and his wife, Tamara, have been married for many years and are blessed with three daughters, three sons-in-law, four granddaughters, and one grandson. Their family also includes their very spoiled dog, Kodi. Outside of the classroom, Steve enjoys playing guitar and bass, traveling in their RV, and working on DIY projects. A fun fact about Steve is that before becoming a teacher, he spent four decades working as an accountant.

What Steve enjoys most about WVCS is the school’s mission and the incredible people who make up the faculty, staff, and administration. His favorite part of teaching is building meaningful relationships with students, being there to support them, and having the opportunity to disciple and pray with them. Guided by Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you,” Steve strives to model Christ’s love, grace, and compassion while helping students grow both academically and spiritually.

Susan Grey

Third Grade Teacher

Susan Grey joined West Valley Christian School in 2021 as a 3rd Grade Teacher. Originally from New Jersey, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies and a Master of Arts in English with an emphasis in Writing. With 22 years of experience in education, Susan has dedicated her career to helping students grow academically and spiritually. Inspired by her father, who served as a Christian school principal and later as a superintendent, she developed a deep passion for Christian education and its lasting impact. After many years teaching in public schools, God led her to WVCS, where she has the joy of teaching students about Him through every subject.

Susan and her husband have four children, along with a lively collection of pets that includes one dog, two cats, two dart frogs, a South American scorpion, and many Madagascar hissing cockroaches. A fun fact about Susan is that she is the youngest of five children and grew up as the principal’s daughter.

What Susan enjoys most about WVCS is building lasting relationships with families and having the opportunity to teach multiple children from the same family over the years. She especially loves watching students grow, and this year she has the privilege of seeing her very first third-grade class graduate from 8th grade. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing the "lightbulb" moment when a student grasps a new concept. Guided by Philippians 1:6, Susan is passionate about encouraging both students and families and is always happy to share the joys and challenges of raising children in a Christ-centered home.

Suzane Foudoulian

Third Grade Teacher

Suzane Foudoulian joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as a 3rd Grade Homeroom Teacher. Originally from Lebanon and of Armenian heritage, Suzane brings 18 years of experience in education, with a background in elementary education, kindergarten, and special education. She holds an Education Degree, a Teaching Diploma, and a Special Education Diploma, along with additional certifications in the education field. Throughout her career, she has also served children and youth through Sunday school, Bible studies, youth groups, and various ministry opportunities.

Suzane and her husband have two sons who both attend West Valley Christian School. Their family moved from Lebanon to California four years ago before relocating to Arizona last year. Outside of the classroom, Suzane enjoys reading, listening to worship music, spending time with her family, and creating meaningful learning experiences for children. A fun fact about Suzane is that she speaks more than three languages and has spent many years performing on stage, participating in children’s programs, and serving as an animator and host for special events.

Suzane believes teaching is a calling from God and has a passion for building relationships, encouraging students, and pointing the next generation toward Christ. She loves being part of a Christ-centered community where Jesus is at the center of everything they do and is grateful for the opportunity to partner with families as students grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Guided by Galatians 2:20, Suzane strives to reflect Christ’s love in her classroom and reminds her students that they are loved, valued, and created with purpose.

Sydney East

First Grade Teacher

Sydney East joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as a 1st Grade Teacher. Originally from California’s Central Valley, Sydney earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University after first serving as a Reading Intervention Aide. She brings two years of experience as a Reading Intervention Aide and two years as a classroom teacher. Sydney has always loved watching children discover something new and believes there is something special about seeing the excitement and confidence on a student’s face when something finally clicks. Those moments remind her of God’s goodness and the joy of helping students grow in their understanding of Him and His creation.

Sydney married her husband, Caleb, in June, and together they have a Bernedoodle named Dave. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, visiting the ocean, traveling, and learning about new places and cultures. A fun fact about Sydney is that after high school she spent a year living in Boston and three months serving as a missionary in Brazil.

What Sydney enjoys most about WVCS is the strong support and Christ-centered community where Jesus is evident in everything they do. She is thankful for the opportunity to teach alongside others who are passionate about serving the Lord and investing in students. Her favorite part of teaching is watching students grow both academically and spiritually as they ask thoughtful questions, develop a love for learning, and encounter Jesus in everyday moments. Guided by Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain,” Sydney is committed to keeping Christ as the foundation of her classroom and trusting that the most meaningful work is the work God builds. She is grateful for the opportunity to partner with families and help students feel known, loved, challenged, and encouraged as they grow in their education and faith.

Tina Laughlin

Preschool Office Assistant

Tina Laughlin joined West Valley Christian School in 2012 and currently serves as the Preschool Administrative Assistant. Originally from Nevada, Tina brings more than 20 years of administrative experience, along with two years of experience in teaching. She enjoys being part of a school community where she can support students, families, and staff in meaningful ways.

Tina has a beautiful daughter named Grace and a sweet pup named Sissy. Outside of school, she enjoys singing, reading, and crafting. A fun fact about Tina is that she is a Permanent Jewelry Technician!

Tina is grateful for the opportunity to serve at WVCS and be part of the preschool community. She loves helping create a welcoming environment for students and families and is thankful for the relationships she has built throughout her years at West Valley Christian School.

Thomas Lauffenberger

Secondary Teacher

Thomas Lauffenberger joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as a High School Math Teacher. Originally from Chicago, Thomas brings 20 years of experience in education and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rockford University. Inspired by a college professor who made a lasting impact on him, Thomas strives to emulate the same encouragement and support he received by helping students grow in confidence and overcome challenges in mathematics.

Thomas is the oldest of three children and has two younger sisters. He shares his home with his sister and nine beloved dogs. Outside of the classroom, Thomas enjoys solving Japanese logic puzzles, slot car racing, and karaoke. A fun fact about Thomas is that during college, he auditioned for the role of ringmaster for the late Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. He also humorously earned the “James T. Kirk Medal for Solving Impossible Problems,” inspired by *Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan*.

Thomas enjoys the supportive community at WVCS and appreciates working alongside administrators and colleagues who encourage one another. His favorite part of teaching is helping students overcome their fear of math, build confidence, and discover that learning can be enjoyable. Guided by the wisdom found in the books of Ecclesiastes and Proverbs, Thomas is committed to doing whatever it takes to help students succeed and reach their full potential.

Travis Thompson

Elementary Principal

Travis Thompson joined West Valley Christian School in 2025 as the Elementary Principal. Originally from Texas, Travis brings 14 years of experience in Christian education and has served in a variety of leadership roles, including Bible Teacher, Dean of Students, Athletic Director, and Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Counseling and is ACSI and CAA certified. Travis attends Orbit Church and is passionate about investing in the next generation through Christ-centered education.

Travis and his wife, Courtney, have a four-year-old daughter, Brooklyn. Outside of school, he enjoys working out, traveling, grilling, watching a great movie, and collecting sports cards. A few fun facts about Travis are that he played college basketball, has undergone five major knee surgeries, and can recite every word of *Forrest Gump*!

What Travis enjoys most about WVCS is serving alongside fellow believers who are passionate about Christian education and building meaningful relationships throughout the school community. His favorite part of each day is spending time with students, whom he describes simply as “awesome.” Guided by Romans 8:28, Travis is committed to caring for every student God has entrusted to him and providing them with the best possible educational experience, both academically and spiritually.

Valerie Moore

Dance Teacher

Valerie Moore Colvert joined West Valley Christian School in 2026 as a Dance Teacher, bringing nearly 30 years of experience teaching dance and 17 years of experience teaching Pilates. Originally from the small town of Dowagiac, Michigan, Valerie earned her Bachelor of Science in Dance Performance and Psychology and became a classically trained Pilates instructor in 2009. Valerie began dancing at just three years old after her mother discovered she was a kinetic learner, and she has always loved using movement to reach children and help them succeed in life. She attends Radiant Church in Surprise and is grateful that WVCS gives her the freedom to combine her love of dance with her faith.

Valerie has been married to her husband, Ian, a retired scientist who loves golf, for ten years. Together, they have two dogs, Lou, a laid-back 100-pound Labradoodle, and Lily, a quick-witted Chinese Crested with plenty of personality! Valerie loves to travel and has even walked a 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain—not once, but twice! A fun fact about Valerie is that she is secretly obsessed with floor plans and architecture.

What Valerie enjoys most about teaching dance is watching students grow year after year and seeing the joy on their faces when they accomplish a goal they have worked hard toward. Her favorite Bible verse is 2 Samuel 6:14: “Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might.” Valerie is excited to share her love of dance and her faith with the students at WVCS and can’t wait to teach and encourage our Warriors through movement, creativity, and joy.
