Job Summary
West Valley Christian School (WVCS) teachers love Jesus and love students; they are called to teach. Outstanding WVCS teachers maintain good rapport with students, teachers, and parents and relate well with the entire community. They effectively communicate to promote clarity, foster collaboration, and effectively manage the classroom to meet learning outcomes. While effectively building capacity in students, teachers implement classroom discipline to foster spiritual growth and maintain safety. WVCS faculty desire to meet WVCS Expected Student Outcomes through discipleship and service and support the inclusion of exceptional learners.

Type of position:
This is a contracted, full-time, exempt position and is paid on a salaried basis. In addition, benefits are offered.
Education, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony.
- Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs agree with our school.
- Agree to uphold West Valley Christian’s Statement of Faith.
- Must have or be willing to get and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card.
- Experience teaching preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree required (education degree preferred)
- Teaching certifications (state and ACSI preferred, ACSI can be obtained in the first year of teaching at WVCS)

Role and Responsibilities:
- Develops and sustains a consistent culture of camaraderie and grace in the classroom and the school.
- Understands the development, social, and emotional needs of students.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of content.
- Provides visible evidence of careful lesson planning and organization in meeting curricular objectives.
- Demonstrates ability to recognize and adjust to varying abilities of students and to cooperatively, with parents and resource teacher(s), provide for the individual learning differences and specialized needs of both the learning disabled and the gifted.
- Strives to increase the knowledge and competence of each student by:
- Presenting material in a clear, informative, and interesting manner.
- Encouraging maximum participation in classroom discussions and activities.
- Requiring the completion of a reasonable amount of clear and challenging, but attainable, assignments.
- Learning and using appropriate questioning strategies.
- Giving individual help to students who need and/or request.
- Providing educational enrichment possibilities beyond the normal course requirements.
- Provides the best possible learning environment and cultivate good student-teacher relationships by:
- Providing positive and effective classroom management to create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
- Exercising dignified, fair, positive, consistent, and effective discipline.
- Providing an attractive environment in the classroom.
- Using a variety of formats in testing.
- Providing timely and adequate feedback to parents and students regarding the student’s academic progress and class news (promptness in grading, recording grades, weekly newsletters, communicating with parents regularly, etc.)
- Interacting with students in an uplifting and non-condescending manner which encourages respectful relationships among students and teachers in the spirit of Christian love.
- Create a classroom environment to promote students’ success.
- Serve as the instructional and spiritual leader in the classroom.
- Effectively and creatively work toward solutions to problems.
- Assist in the achievement of the short and long-term educational goals of the school and its Christian values.
- Design and conduct learning situations that instruct students in the content of one’s respective discipline per the WVCS adopted curriculum and course of study.
- Stimulate each student to want to live an honest, responsible, and faith driven life, instilling within each one a feeling of competency and productivity.
- Encourage students through a positive personal attitude to utilize every opportunity for a constructive learning experience.
- Systematically acquire knowledge about individual students for helping them plan and conduct needed learning experiences.
- Observe established policies of the doctrine and school; make recommendations for changes in policies when advisable.
- Confer with students and parents at appropriate and set times.
- Sponsor and supervise reasonable extracurricular assignments, chaperone school events, and monitor assigned areas.
- Execute teaching activities in a constructive and meaningful manner.
- Evaluate student progress, issue grades and reports, prepare, record, and report class attendance consistently.
- Handle discipline problems within classroom areas; arrange and conduct parent conferences, assist in building discipline and security.
- Perform other duties assigned by the administration.
